Moving to the UK with pets

We are often asked by South Africans considering a move to the UK if their pets can come with them. The good news is that England welcomes most breeds of dogs and cats, provided they meet the country’s pet import regulations. To help you with your planning, here are some commonly asked questions and our answers:

Question: Our neighbours have given us their old plastic pet travel container to transport our Maltese dog to the UK. Will it be okay?

IATA (International Animal Transport Association) and IPATA (International Pet and Animal Transportation Association) have strict regulations for pet travel, as do the various airlines. Have a look at the IATA (www.iata.org) and IPATA (www.ipata.org) websites for more information. Some plastic containers are acceptable but that said, there are a lot that don’t make the grade. In the interests of maximum safety and comfort, we custom-make our pet travel containers from SABS- or SATAS-approved wood and in accordance with world-class standards. They are strong, durable, secure, and more comfortable than other options. You can stand four adults on top of one of our boxes; we’ve never seen a plastic travel box that can take the same weight.

Feel free to contact our knowledgeable and friendly Petwings pet travel agents if you have other questions – we are a phone call, video call, or email away:

We’re also a long-standing member of IPATA, recommended by vets throughout South Africa, and thousands of delighted families all around the world: Check out our Happy client testimonials for more inspiration.
