The handling staff at the airport check the pet travel containers and will reject those that are too small or unsuitable. If this happens, owners might be lucky enough to be granted a small window of opportunity to source a suitable container before the flight closes. Alternatively, the pet may be rejected and miss the flight completely. The repercussions are huge and can include losing the full flight cost (i.e., airline dependent), the cost of a new container, paying for another potentially more expensive flight due to the increased volumetric weight, kennelling, and new health certificates depending on the next flight availability.
