Smooth Pet Relocation to Ireland

Planning to move to Ireland with your furry friend? Navigating the complex regulations and documentation for pet transport to Ireland can be daunting. From vaccinations and microchipping to health certificates, we’ve got you covered. Let us handle the details so you can focus on your move.

Pet Transport to Ireland

To bring your pet to Ireland, you’ll need to complete a written declaration for non-commercial transport. Additionally, an import permit from the Irish authorities may be required. This confirms your pet’s vaccinations and veterinary examination. A health certificate proving your pet is fit to travel is also necessary. We can assist with the following important requirements of your pet relocation process:

  • Veterinary Health Certificates

Your pet needs a health certificate stating it is fit and healthy to travel. This certificate should be valid for at least 10 days from the date of issue by the vet until the date of travel. A new health certificate is needed each time your pet travels. This certificate, which you can obtain from your vet, should include:

    • Proof of rabies vaccination.
    • Results of antibody and blood tests.
    • Confirmation of internal and external parasite treatments.

  • Microchipping, Vaccinations, Rabies, and Health Checks

Before entering Ireland, your pet must be microchipped with an ISO-approved chip. The microchip must be implanted before any annual vaccinations, as vaccinations given before microchipping are not recognised. Pets also require a Rabies Neutralising Antibodies Titration Test (RNATT) to ensure sufficient immunity to rabies. This test must be done by an authorised vet at least 31 days after the rabies vaccination. Additionally, your pet will need specific internal and external parasite treatments before departure, which must be documented on your veterinary health certificate.

  • Customs Clearance, Designated Entry Points & Quarantine

For all pet travel exports to Ireland, customs clearance is required. Proof of this clearance must be provided to the airline along with your pets on their departure date. We will manage your entire customs clearance process, ensuring all export requirements are fully met. Generally, pets do not need to be quarantined upon arrival in Ireland, provided all health and documentation requirements are met. Please also note these special regulations:

    • Designated Entry Points: Pets must enter Ireland through designated entry points: Cork Airport, Dublin Airport, Dublin Port, Shannon Airport, the Port of Cork at Ringaskiddy, or Rosslare Europort, and undergo compliance checks upon arrival.
    • Travel with Owners: Pets must travel with their owners or an authorised person within five days of the owner's travel.
    • Advance Notice for Non-EU Countries: Advance notice is required to arrange compliance checks upon arrival for pets arriving from non-EU countries.
